Credit Unions Are Different For Three Fundamental Reasons
1. Credit Union Members Share a Common Bond of Employment, Association or Community with Others.
This is the broader concept of self-help, which is why credit unions were created. Over 125 years ago, it began for people with common interests and needs. A new type of financial institution was created because of this commonality of needs. This credit union was designed specifically to meet the needs of its members.

2. The Credit Union is Not-For-Profit.
We are here to provide our members with the best possible financial assistance and advice. We're not in the business to make money, or do anything other than serve the members. True, other financial institutions say the same thing, but only credit unions have the concept of service as the cornerstone of their existence.

3. Members are the Big Difference.
Credit unions have members, not customers. The members are the collective owners of the credit union. Members' votes elect a Board of Directors from among the membership. The Board of Directors sets policies and makes sure the credit union is responsive to its members' needs. Members own the credit union through the Board of Directors and committees made up of member volunteers.
